I've added recent photo albums! I haven't actually been taking too many pictures but during the summer I attended parts of the Guelaguetza which is a yearly celebration where many different cultures, traditions, and dances throughout the state of Oaxaca come together in the city. I also had a chance to go to the beach for a long weekend ... my absolute favorite getaway so far! For those of you who have facebook, you've probably already seen these, but for those who don't, check them out! :)
Next task.... taking random, wonderful pictures of my everyday life here in Oaxaca ;) Those will be the pictures that count!

- After studying in Oaxaca for four months in the fall of 2008, I moved to Oaxaca in June 2009 and have been here ever since! I can't believe almost two years have gone by. Now, I've moved to a little town in the mountains an hour out of the city of Oaxaca, and I'm teaching English at a university that resides there. A completely new adventure within an adventure. Along with the continuously changing skies here, I'm seeing through yet another set of eyes here in Mexico.

For those of you that read Spanish....
For my first class that lasted three weeks, I had the opportunity to participate in "free-writes". During this class, we had discussions about the role that women play in society here in Oaxaca, in Mexico, and in the United States. One day during class, I felt really passionate about the conversation about women in today's society and during our free-write afterwards, this is what I wrote. It's in Spanish, so I'm sorry to those who can't read it but I felt that these words are what came from my heart and I haven't felt the desire to translate it just yet since it wouldn't be completely the same. I'll have to write something similar to this later. Basically, I wrote this for my future husband.....
La mujer. Sí, soy una mujer, pero también soy Michele. Una persona sencilla pero fuerte. Yo tengo la habilidad de hacer cualquier cosa si estoy determinada. Quizás soy una mujer bonita pero lo más importante es que soy una persona hermosa con sentimientos bellos y pensamientos inteligentes. ¿A ti qué te gusta más? ¿Mi sonrisa o mi risa? ¿Mis labios o mis palabras? ¿Mis ojos o mi punto de vista? ¿Cuál es más importante para ti? ¿Mi papel como tu esposa o mi personalidad, mis pasiones en la vida, mis deseos para el mundo? ¿Es más importante que te amo o que me amas? Yo soy una mujer. Sí, esto es verdad. Pero también yo soy Michele … una persona, una amiga, una amante … que quiere compartir esta vida contigo para aprender juntos y crecer como individuos.
